Welcome to Reception!
Our Reception staff are Miss Fuller, Miss Hussain, Miss Sandhu, Mrs Aston and Miss Asghar.
In Reception we provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment in which children learn through explorational experiences and direct teaching of basic skills.
The learning environment is planned to inspire the children’s imagination, develop their curiosity and provide a learning space for each area of our curriculum. We use our indoor and outdoor classroom to provide a variety of learning opportunities for the children to thrive and make progress.
Our EYFS Vision
At St George’s, we place great value on the development of children as individuals and providing them with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to prepare them for the challenges in Key Stage One and beyond. Our aim in the EYFS is to build strong foundations rooted in academic success as well as moral and spiritual development, so that ultimately our children will become active citizens of society and happy, curious life-long learners.
We have high expectations of all children at St George’s but recognise that children have different starting points to their learning. Many of our pupils arrive well below national expectations for their age and a high proportion come from disadvantaged backgrounds and with complex needs. We strive to give our children learning experiences to build foundations to enable them to become effective communicators by developing their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, as we believe this is the key to future learning and success. We aim to widen their imagination, develop a love of language and literature, and create a school environment that fosters this nurturing.
Our curriculum therefore aims to provide the cultural capital we know our pupils need so that they can gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they require for success. They can only do that if we embed the right habits for learning through the Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning – Play and Exploration, Active Learning and Creative and Critical Thinking.
Our enabling environment and warm, skillful adult interactions support the children as they begin to link learning to their play and exploration. We invest time and energy into helping pupils set and reflect on their own goals by aiming high and developing a love of reading, writing and number. This is delivered through a holistic curriculum which maximises opportunities for meaningful cross-curricular links and learning experiences as well as promoting the unique child at St George's.
We strive to prepare children to reach the Early Learning goals at the end of the Foundation Stage and ensure all children make good progress from their starting points. We provide a curriculum that motivates, inspires and promotes cross-curricular, independent learning which ensures a seamless transition for all children into Year 1 and beyond.
We aim for all children, by the end of Reception, to:
- be confident communicators.
- form and build positive relationships.
- know how to be healthy.
- read and write sentences.
- acquire mathematical skills to solve problems.
- know who they are, where they are from and where they are going.
- explore and express creativity through a range of mediums.
- aspire to be the best that they can be.
